Actor Alec Baldwin and a weapons specialist will be charged with involuntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a cinematographer who was killed on a New Mexico movie set, prosecutors announced Thursday, citing a "criminal disregard for safety." Baldwin was pointing a pistol at Hutchins when the gun went off, killing her and wounding the director, Joel Souza. The case of a patient who died after spending 16 hours in a Quebec hospital's emergency room without being seen by a doctor is prompting physicians to denounce conditions in the province's health system. The incident was brought to light by Dr. Sébastien Marin, an emergency room physician, who detailed the incident in several Twitter posts Saturday. According to Marin, the deceased patient — a man over the age of 70 — went to an unnamed hospital, but returned home because no doctors could see him after 16 hours. Bruce Chaulk has been reinstated as Newfoundland and Labrador's chief electoral officer and commissioner of legislative standards. "The citizens' representative's findings should not be used as a basis for further action against the chief electoral officer. The House of Assembly Management Commission asked former chief justice Derek Green to review the report by the citizens' representative. The provincial government accepted a recommendation from the House of Assembly Management Commission to suspend Chaulk on June 28. National handgun sale freeze 'the final culmination of disappointment' for Alberta retailer

An Alberta firearms retailer says the national "freeze" on the sale of handguns that went into effect Friday is unfair to lawful gun owners and won't make a difference to violent crime rates. Under the regulations, people can no longer buy, sell or transfer handguns within Canada, or bring new handguns into the country. Alberta Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Tyler Shandro said in a statement that the new regulations scapegoat handgun owners. He believes there are ways to limit access to firearms that don't come at the expense of lawful firearm owners. Guy Joly, a gun safety instructor, agrees that the freeze won't help public safety.
