On 57 minutes, Duncan then had his best chance to get his team a leveller, but Darvel stopper Chris Truesdale saved his effort well from close range. As the half progress the Aberdeen players once again went into their shell, with the Ayrshire side first to every challenge or loose ball. But as the game went into its final 20 minutes, Aberdeen passed up another big chance as Truesdale denied Besuijen at the near post following a low cross from Hayes. With 10 minutes remaining, Truesdale then pulled off another stunning save between the sticks for the hosts, denying Duk at close quarters. The Darvel players joyfully celebrated their famous victory, whilst a sorry Jim Goodwin and his players departed the pitch with guilt and shame visible across their faces.
